Hale is a physically mature, strong young catcher who we’ve seen frequently at Perfect Game events. We especially like his defensive skills behind the plate. Hale is very aggressive about blocking balls in the dirt and is the kind of receiver that pitchers learn to throw to with confidence. He has above average arm strength and got the ball down to second base in Lincoln between 1.86 and 1.94, pretty normal for him. We’ve seen Hale hit the ball hard with wood in the past but it looked like he got a bit long trying to lift the ball in Lincoln. When he stays within himself and keeps his swing short, Hale has good gap to gap power and will occasionally wander into a mistake over the plate that he can drive out of the park. At times he looks as good as any high school catcher in the country. Alex is an excellent student.
