Mason Gerrard is a 2023 3B/RHP/SS with a 6-1 176 lb. frame from Temple, TX who attends Belton HS. Mason is a well built, highly impressive, athletic presence. He shows a sure passion for the game and appears driven to succeed. His effort level is matched by few. In addition to his obvious talent and drive to give maximum effort on the field, Mason is also a gifted scholar who shows the same kind of desire in the classroom as his does on the diamond. He ran a 7.45 60 yard dash, which is plus average for his age group. A primary third baseman, Mason shows advancing skill that will only improve as he gains experience. He can play 3B and play it well. His quick feet allow him to position consistently. His glovework is sound and is highlighted by his easy and soft hands. His throwing action, which is highlighted by the 81 mph velocity on his tosses, is solid and repeatable. His throws around the diamond are pure and firm and highly accurate. Mason also took his turn on the mound and impressed. His certain mechanical operation that he routinely repeats, is commendable. His H 3/4 slot and pure arm quickness, coupled with his ability to pitch down the slope, enhance his already powerful arm. He pitches off his 80-82 mph fastball that he shows competent command and control on. He works both edges quite well and tries to stay in the bottom half of the zone. His 70 mph, 12/6 breaking curveball shows tight spin and sure depth at the plate. He is strike thrower with both pitches. Although Mason could undoubtedly have a promising future on the mound, his ability to swing the bat will probably see him playing his primary position so his stick can stay in the middle of a line-up. Mason starts his offensive operation with a narrow stance and uses a simple shift to load. His swing is primed for advanced growth. He is positively aggressive. He shows a consistent launch angle and gets his barrel to and through contact with noticeable force. His contact is loud. He has a path that is grooved for plus pop to the gaps. Advanced, pure raw power will develop as he matures and adds more strength. The tools for being a promising and advanced offensive player are certainly present. Mason is an emerging elite player who obviously is driven to succeed on the field. He is gifted and talented and appears ready to take the next step. His passion for the game and his desire to play at an optimum level will get him there.
