Matt Brazis is a 2008 RHP with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Tampa FL, who attends Tampa Jesuit HS. He has a nice athletic frame for his age and good projection for future strength gains. Brazis has a low effort clean delivery and is a bit cross body on his release. He throws from a standard 3/4's release point and maintains a good arm angle to the plate. His arm action is loose and he has very good raw arm speed from a compact power arm action. Brazis' fastball was 84-86 mph and he had consistent cutting action on the pitch that made it more difficult to hit. Not surprisingly, Brazis' best secondary pitch was a 76 mph slider that was sharp and late most of the time. Brazis also threw a couple of 68 mph curveballs but this was more a show me breaking ball than a weapon. He also mixed in a couple of 74 mph change ups. Brazis' is young and projectable, has good fastball velocity and an advanced breaking ball. That's a good recipe for a high level pitching prospect. Brazis is also a very good student.
