James Mathis is a 2021 C/OF with a 5-10 158 lb. frame from Grandview, TX who attends Grandview. Medium frame with a lean build and plenty of room to fill out. Ran a 7.07 second 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, sets up low in his crouch and has quickness to his movements with a transfer at the chest, some foot speed getting out of the crouch and a loose arm that generates some carry on throws to bags. Left-handed hitter, sets up with high hands and a high back elbow using a small leg lift trigger for timing. Works on a linear swing plane with a contact-oriented approach, shows some looseness in the wrists and swings around it at times with best impact off the barrel coming on line drives to the middle of the field.
