LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Keaton Hayenga is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Eastlake HS, residing in Redmond, WA. Hayenga has a plus pitcher's body in terms of length and proportions. He will carry more weight quite easily on that 6'4" 175 lb. frame. He does have pretty square shoulders which may be a cause for concern for some scouts. With Hayenga, what he does today is not as impressive as what you imagine he will do in the future. He was ranked #58 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and has a chance to move past many of those ranked ahead of him. Hayenga pitches from an over the top slot and has a long, easy arm action that gets going pretty well after he comes out of a stabbing takeaway on the backside. His delivery is pretty athletic and he creates nice rhythm throughout, letting his body work freely. His fastball was in the 87-90 range with a touch at 91. There was some good arm side action that can develop into good sink as he gains more extension. His breaking ball was a 76-78 mph slurve type curveball that has a chance to be a good two plane breaker, one that can be used to go at the hip of RH hitters or at the back foot of LH hitters. Hayenga also showed a usable 74-77 mph change-up. His overall pitchability with his secondary stuff was quite good. With stuff and a body that is still developing, Hayenga has a pretty high ceiling. He will get pretty high round draft consideration this spring, especially if he ratchets that fastball up a notch or two. He is verbally committed to Washington State.
