Lucas Smith is a 2022 C/RHP/IF with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from Temecula, CA who attends Great Oak. Strong athletic build. Two-way prospect. 7.63 runner in the sixty. Primary catcher who looks the part physically, has good lower half quickness and agility and comes out of his crouch well, strong arm with on line carry, quick efficient transfer. Right handed hitter, hits from an exaggerated narrow open stance, big hand and front side wind up into his swing, swings with intent and an up hill swing plane, tends to get overaggressive at times and will need simplify his pre-swing approach for more consistency, has the strength to improve as a hitter with adjustments. Also pitched, has a fast paced delivery with a mid 3/4's arm slot, hides the ball well and has deception, especially on his fastball. Fastball topped out at 87 mph, gets on hitters quickly and has some running life at times. Change up was a solid pitch for him with good sink and fade and solid arm speed. Sweeping curveball showed good depth as well. Ability to improve as a hitter will determine his eventual position. Good student. Named to the Sunshine West Showcase Top Prospect List.
