Matthew Gomez is a 2022 3B/RHP with a 5-7 158 lb. frame from Hialeah, FL who attends Mater Academy Lakes. Young, broad shouldered built with present strength to frame and additional room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran an 8.04 60-yard dash. Primary third baseman, stays low in actions and gets behind the ball, shows quickness going up the middle and can lower slot at release, front side opens early at times at release, repeats actions. Fields the ball out front in the outfield, short and compact arm action, gets on top of throws, can continue to incorporate additional lower half at release. Also pitched, on line arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release point, short stride down the mound, worked exclusively out of the stretch. Fastball topped out at 75 mph, pitched off fastball and showed short sinking life down in the zone, pitched to contact and threw strikes. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate, weight starts on backside in the box. Uses hands well, stays short and inside the baseball, shows quickness and remains direct to the ball. Utilizes a pull side approach and also showed comfort working the middle of the field, linear path and contact with a steady feel for the barrel. Very good student.
