Reid Akins is a 2022 C/RHP, MIF with a 5-11 175 lb. frame from Martinez, GA who attends Evans. Large and physical frame with strength present especially in his lower half. Ran a 7.13 second 60 yard dash. Primary catcher, worked out behind the plate with a developing reception, long with transfers through the back and long arm action, upright release into throw downs, good arm strength up to 78 mph on throws to second base, 2.02 second best pop time. Secondary right-handed pitcher, starts his delivery with a turn step up to a belt high leg lift, takes his arm back to a full arm action up to a high 3/4 arm slot, stays around the strike zone with a fastball up to 84 mph and a curveball with 12-6 shape, flashes sharpness to the breaking ball. Also worked out in the infield with effort to his actions, good arm strength with carry across, actions play best at third. Right-handed hitter, sets up in the box with an open stance and a high hand set, shifts into contact, compact and easy swing with a full path through the hitting zone, comes off well when squared with a gap to gap approach.
