Solomon Yi is a 2020 OF/RHP with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Orange, CA who attends Crean Lutheran. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength to frame, additional room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.16 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, fields the ball out front, repeats actions well and strides on line, shows carry from an over-the-top slot when on top of throws, occasionally gets uphill, sound footwork with quickness to arm. Also pitched, similar over-the-top release on the mound, strides open coming down with lower half; fastball topped out at 80 mph, shows running life to arm side when locating there, mixed an 11-5 shaped curveball with side-to-side slurve action, will continue to develop a consistent feel for the pitch. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and lower back elbow in the box; spread stance and utilizes a toe tap trigger for timing at the plate. Longer swing path through the zone, keeps hands inside the ball with looseness and present bat speed. Turns on the ball well and shows a handle for the barrel, can simplify lower half mechanics, occasionally gets uphill with path. Good student.
