Ryan Halstead is a 2010 RHP/1B/3B/OF with a 5'11'', 150 lb. frame from Alta Loma CA, who attends Los Osos HS. He has a long body, with a high waist and a lean build. Halstead does not yet have tools that really stand out, but he is a polished young player with feel for the game and mastery of his ability at this stage of development. Offensively he showed an easy, smooth stroke and hits with rhythm. His hands work well and are pretty quick to the ball. Halstead stays behind the baseball at contact and executes a nice approach. His power will come and when it does, it will be easy, fluid power stroke. Defensively he showed very sound fundamentals and plays under control, with efficient actions. Time will tell where he will play, though his footspeed will have to improve a lot to move off 1st base. On the mound Halstead has good presence and a nice, rhythmic, on-time delivery. He is a strike thrower with a mid-70s fastball that has some sink and a 12/6ish curveball. His arm works well, with easy effort. As the gets stronger and physically mature, Halstead has a chance to be one of the top players in his age group in Southern California.
