Matthew Giles is a 2019 OF/RHP, 2B with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from El Paso, TX who attends Franklin High School. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with quick-twitch to actions and some present strength to build. Primary outfielder, good energy moving towards the ball with long strides, fields the ball out front and funnels into a shorter arm stroke, repeats actions well and shows a quick transfer, on top of throws from a higher slot and keeps them low with present arm strength and carry to intended base. Also pitched, big rock step into a higher leg lift up past belt while getting tall on backside; opened up working from submarine slot with a short and quick arm action through the back then got to a three-quarters slot for most of the outing; worked within 80-84 mph from both slots. Shows running life to arm side from three-quarters slot. Curveball shows 11-5 shape with tight rotation and short depth. Righthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a lower hand set in the box; uses a leg lift trigger with a gliding step moving into contact. Shows quickness to hands and swings with intent, linear path through the zone and keeps hands inside throughout. Creates line drive contact and shows comfort working to the middle and pull side parts of the field, creates back spin when on time and flashed carry off the barrel. Very good student.
