Alex Leary is a 2019 RHP/3B with a 6-2 179 lb. frame from St Louis, MO who attends Ladue Horton Watkins. Large frame with long limbs and an athletic build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Ran a 7.05 sixty-yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with smooth side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive actions. Swings front side slightly but lands in line with the plate at finish. Shorter arm circle at take back and released form a compact three-quarters slot. Fastball generating some downhill angle through the zone in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 79 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with solid spin and good depth in the upper 60's. Works quickly and challenged hitters throughout each inning. Flashed some feel to each edge of the plate and consistently changed speeds. Right handed hitter with a balanced, slightly open stance and large leg lift trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Compact hand path to baseball with a line drive plane through extension. Generated loud, sharp contact when keeping hands and front side on baseball at contact. Primarily utilized a mid field approach but flashed the barrel feel to work the other way as well. Very good student.
