2019 Great Lakes Prospect Showcase
Sam Holtz is a 2021 SS/C with a 5-9 170 lb. frame from Hawthorn Woods, IL who attends Lake Zurich. Medium frame with broader shoulders and present strength. Primary shortstop with loose, athletic footwork while ranging for and rounding the baseball. Clean, polished glove actions while funneling and worked through exchange quickly. Showed clean actions while on the run and generated accurate, on line carry to the bag at 78 mph. Also worked out defensively from behind the plate showing a slightly taller, side set stance while receiving the baseball. Gains ground towards the bag and worked through exchange quickly. Released from a compact three-quarters arm slot generating accurate carry to the bag at 73 mph, best workout pop time of 2.00. Right handed hitter with an even, spread stance and compact leg lift trigger. Direct, compact path to contact with a line drive barrel plane. Showed present bat speed with good feel for the barrel throughout the zone. Consistently generated sharp contact off the barrel with good jump to the gaps when squared. Excellent student. Named to the 2019 Great Lakes Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
