2006 National Showcase
Brian Dupra is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Greece Athena HS, residing in Rochester, NY. Dupra has a strong, durable build on a 6'3" 193 lb. frame. He looks like a power pitcher. He is yet another top arm from the Northeast in the '07 high school class and was ranked #20 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. Dupra pitches from a high 3/4 slot with a long, clean, circular arm action on the back side. His arm works easily and he creates good arm speed. There is not a lot of effort in that arm stroke, suggesting that as he continues to develop physically, there are more than a few mph for him to gain. His mechanics are nice and fluid, with good balance and direction to the plate. He is going to keep throwing harder and harder because that arm really works. His fastball was up to 92 and sat 88-91 with some arm side action. Dupra gets good extension on the front side, giving his fastball a bit of late hop in the zone that can sneak by hitters. He kept the fastball down in the zone and looked capable of being able to pitch with the fastball. Dupra showed a 78 mph slider with sweeping action but not much depth. His slot works for that pitch and it would seem as though he has a chance to have at least an average slider. He also showed decent feel and arm speed with his 78 mph change-up. Dupra has a chance to go very highly in the draft next June and also is likely sifting through a pile of offers from top D1 programs.
