2005 National Showcase
Matthew Cerione is a 2006 outfielder from Alpharetta, GA with a good body that shows strength at 6-2, 180 lbs. He's a left handed hitter with a very nice swing and swing plane. He gets very good extension through the ball and uses his hands to drive the ball. Cerione hits from an open to closed approach and sometimes goes past his balance point and ends up diving into the ball, which affects his overall swing and ability to drive the ball. When he's balanced he shows power to all fields that should keep improving as he continues to gain strength. Cerione is a 6.95 runner who also runs a quck 6.34 to first base. He threw 81 mph from the outfield and showed good range and outfield instincts. Overall, Cerione is a multi-tooled young outfielder who is just beginning to grow into his baseball skills. Very good prospect.
