Brian Ellington is a 2008 RHP with a 6'4'', 180 lb. frame from Gainesville , FL who attends Oak Hall HS. He has a tall lean athletic frame with broad shoulders and narrow hips. Ellington is a very good athlete who can really run (6.71 60) and play defense in the outfield. He shows good raw bat speed but could improve mechanics at the plate. Ellington's pitching mechanics are also on the raw side but his athletic ability enables him to make adjustments and throw enough strikes with his top level stuff. His fastball was 89-92 mph from a whippy arm action and high 3/4's release point. He flies open at release and shows some effort to his delivery. Ellington's best pitch is a mid 70's curveball that has a hard downer break and good depth and he also throws a low 80's split fingered change that has some sink and fade to it. Ellington has always shown good command of his curveball and change up. His long and loose body and arm give Ellington plenty of projection and he already has three quality pitches. As he gets stronger and improves his pitching mechanics, Ellington will continue to improve as long as he stays healthy. He is a good student with a verbal to Florida State.
