Darren McCaughan is a 2014 RHP/SS with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Downey, CA who attends Los Alamitos HS. Medium athletic build, room to get stronger. Simple athletic on line delivery, accelerates well to the plate, good balance, 3/4's arm slot, loose arm coming through. 4-seam fastball up to 84 mph, very good sink and bore on 81 mph 2-seamer, works down in the zone with fastball consistently and hits spots. Curveball has good spin and bite with nice 10/4 sweeping depth. Mixed his pitches and had an idea how to pitch. Third base tools/actions defensively, smooth at the ball with soft hands, loose arm with accurate throws, can quicken release and first step. Right handed hitter, low hand start, open stance, has some bat speed, pull line drive contact. Good student.
