2004 Sunshine East Showcase
Phillip Carey is a 2005 left handed hitting middle infielder from Canada with a good range of skills and tools that should translate well to the college level. He has a nice, fluid swing from a wide, balanced stance and generates some good bat speed. Carey had some backward lean in batting practice and had some loft to his swing but took a more level, line drive type of stroke during games. He could hit for some serious power in the future. Carey listed himself as a switch hitter but only hit left handed during the Showcase. Defensively, Carey has good actions and some good arm strength and should be able to stay in the middle of the field. His bat should make a potential move to third base worthwhile, also. He's athletic and he's a good student.
