Owen Shortell is a 2023 C/SS with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Saint James, NY who attends Smithtown East. Shortell works from a medium athletic build with strength evident throughout. Exclusively from his primary spot behind the dish, he started from a square set with bounce in the footwork that gained ground towards 2B. The transfers were clean and fluid with developing arm strength up to 72 mph and a 2.05 pop time. Offensively, the righty started from an open stance with a compact hand set that worked directly through the zone and inside the baseball to produce consistent impact back up the middle. He got the barrel out in front and posted an 80 mph exit velo. Ran a 7.81 sixty yard dash. Good student.
