2006 National Showcase
Demetrius Washington is a 2007 right hand hitting outfielder from Silver Bluff HS, residing in New Ellenton, SC. Washington has an athletic and strong build on a 6'0" 185 lb. frame. He has a solid set of tools that will continue to develop and was ranked #49 among PG National Top 100 position players as much for his present day ability as for his future potential, both of which are good. Washington has good bat speed and is an aggressive, free swinger type hitter. He does do a nice job of working the middle of the field and makes a lot of hard contact. There do not generally seem to be many hitters that swing with as much aggressive intent as Washington. He is a bit of a free swinger, but does work to stay in the middle of the field, so perhaps it is best to say the Washington is not real picky about what he hits, rather than just pegging him as a free swinger. He also looked like the type that does hunt a certain pitch from to time and when he gets a pitch in that vicinity, he puts a good swing on it. As he gets bigger and stronger, the line drives Washington currently hits will start to carry more. In the outfield he goes to the ball well and can track it down. Washington has a good arm though his release will need to quicken a bit as he moves along to higher levels of play. His tools rate as solid for the centerfield position. Washington ran 4.42 home/1st with a 6.77 60 yard time. Washington is a D1 prospect and a good professional prospect as well. He will get attention from the area scouts all spring and has a chance to go on the first day of the draft, in the top ten rounds.
