The Canes American 17u team and the Canes National 17u team opened up their WWBA National Championship runs with a seven-inning exhibition game. Hosted at the home of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Russ Chandler Stadium welcomed both teams to downtown Atlanta last night.

In a 7-6 win, the American squad got their offensive momentum rolling out of the gate. In the top of the first, Joshua Campbell stepped up with one runner on and drilled a line drive to left field, scoring teammate Jaxon Kehoe.

The Canes National immediately answered back with a leadoff home run from the Michigan native, Dante Nori, for the National's first run of the game, the score now 1-1.

It wasn't long before American’s left fielder Sawyer Black stepped up to the plate and went yard, scoring teammate Connor Bellew for a two-run homer. This extended the American’s lead 3-1 going into the bottom of the second.

Black continued to lead the American offense going 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs. In the top of the fourth Sawyer was able to score two more runs for the squad, sending a single to right field, and scoring teammates Bellew and Levi Brown.

The Canes National were able to turn around and load the bases in the bottom of the fourth, with the heart of their lineup set to step up to the plate. After a series of hit batters and walks the Nationals were able to tack on a few more runs, closing their lead 6-4.

This exhibition match allowed for both teams to get in some extra game-like reps prior to their first pool games this morning.

The 17u WWBA is set to welcome 418 teams to the East Cobb Complex in Marietta, Georgia. With an 1150-game tournament, both of these Canes teams are going to fight hard for this coveted National title.

The Canes National faced off against the Knights Knation 17u Marucci team this morning, walking away with their first win of the WWBA at the Brook Run Baseball Fields. You will also be able to find the Canes American team at the Brook Run Fields, facing off against the EVO 17u team at 10:15 a.m., for their first pool game.
