College Baseball Top 25: June 27

It would be difficult to argue against the thought that we just lived through the greatest college baseball season in the BBCOR era. From Opening Day to the last game of the College World Series we were treated to epic individual performances and historic seasons by different programs in their own way. We witnessed first round talents live up to the hype if not exceed the loftiest of expectations. Mid-major programs put the nation on notice that it doesn’t matter what league you are associated with, there are still national title contenders hiding in the shadows. While this is a game that values tradition, it continues to evolve and who knows what is ahead as the transfer portal and NIL deals can change the fortunes of teams drastically from one year to the next. All that being said, the college game has never been more alive, resources have never been more cutting edge and the fans have never been more passionate. Our “National Pastime” at the college level is in great shape!



The No.1 LSU Tigers (54-17), our Pre-Season No.1 team in the land, finished atop the college baseball landscape winning their 7th College World Series title. With Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes, most likely the first two picks in the coming MLB Draft, leading one of the most talented teams the game has ever seen. They hosted the Regional and Super Regional in Baton Rouge as they went a perfect (5-0) sweeping their way to Omaha. The No.2 Florida Gators (54-17) were one of the most consistent clubs all season, led by Wyatt Langford and Jac Caglianone, as they forced a third game in the CWS championship round before falling to the Tigers last night. Wake Forest (54-12) made a return trip to the Field of 8 for the first time since 1955 and after occupying the top spot in the poll for many weeks, they finish the season at No.3 for the year. The No.4 TCU Horned Frogs (44-24) went on an amazing run at the end as they won the Big 12 Tournament and made a lot of noise at Charles Schwab Stadium. The Tennessee Volunteers (44-22) overcame their difficulties on the road winning the Regional and Super Regional rounds away from home and finish the year at No.5 in the poll.

Oral Roberts (52-14) rode their magical season to round out the year as the No.6 team in the nation, while the Stanford Cardinal (44-20) made their third consecutive trip to Omaha and land at No.7. The Virginia Cavaliers (50-15) proved they are always contenders finishing at No.8. While No.9 Kentucky (40-21) and No.10 Indiana State (45-17) head into the offseason on the heels of arguably the best season in their respective program’s history.
