Firecracker Finale Scout Notes: Days 1-3

William Edwards (2023, Perry, Ga.) got the start for Aasa 17u in their opening pool play game and looked good throughout. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound left-handed pitcher tossed three innings, allowed only one hit, and struck out three. Edwards ran the fastball up to 88 mph and showed tons of sink which kept the heater off the barrel of opposing hitters. The best secondary pitch was the changeup, which sat in the high-70s and showed late depth and was tunneled well off the fastball. The physical left-hander also showed a curveball that held consistent 1-7 shape but didn’t show much feel for the pitch. The Perry native shows huge upside on the mound, repeating mechanics well and using the big frame to work down the mound and create extension out front. Tons of things to like about the performance and the projection on the mound as he already has two plus pitches and flashed a third.
