Mid Atlantic/Northeast Scout Notes

The 2020 travel ball circuit will certainly be one that every player, coach and parent will always remember. Marred with travel restrictions, event cancellations and even high school seasons lost, the players within the Northeast region have continued to perservere through the ever-changing world that we live in these days. This weekend was no different as many talented prospects converged on the region to hopefully leave a lasting impression as they go into the offseason.

18U Mid Atlantic World Series

The 18U Mid Atlantic World Series got started on Friday evening in South Jersey and brought together a group of teams with both high-end committed players and a host of uncommitted prospects looking for a home as they finish out their 2020 season. NEB National came to New Jersey with full intentions of staking claim to the 18u World Series and their roster surely showed just that with a host of power five commits and a lengthy list of other top-flight prospects. There were many standouts throughout the event, as we will highlight those below.




University of Pittsburgh commit Jonathan Bautista (2021, Philadelphia, PA) is someone that caught our eye at few weeks ago at the 18U Fall Northeast championship, topping out at 92 mph in that event. The well-proportioned right-hander brought similar raw arm speed during his appearance for NEB National in their first pool play matchup. Bautista got the start albeit an abbreviated one as he only went two-and-a third innings so he could come back later in the event. The Philly native worked from his usual simple delivery, while repeating it and exhibiting the same electric arm speed we saw a few weeks back to top out at 93 mph in this look with advanced command of the strike zone. The overall stuff is pretty loud as well, the arm stroke is quick and compact, and the scary part is there is more physical and velocity projection coming in the near future. There is plenty of things to like with the breaking ball as it flashes plus when thrown with conviction and extension out in front. Bautista is just the type of Northeast arm that could shoot up the MLB Draft list for 2021 as hopefully he gets to be seen come next spring.
