WWBA World Champ. Uncommitted: Pitchers

WWBA World Championship Uncommitted: Hitters

To make a deep run in the playoffs you need some players to step up. Isaac Sewell (2022 Clermont, FL) did just that for Power Baseball. He threw nine total shutout innings at the WWBA. The southpaw threw a complete game in the playoffs giving up a single hit and did not surrender a walk. The 6-foot-2 sturdy framed Florida native peaks in the mid-80s with good feel for his curveball and changeup. He hammers the zone and competes.




One of the highest ranked uncommitted left-handed arms in the ’22 class is JD Thompson (2022 Rusk, TX). He proved why he is so highly sought after, throwing six innings with twelve strikeouts for the Canes Prospects. He did not surrender a run over his two outings with a firm 90 mph fastball and plenty of swing and miss with his secondary offerings, a curveball around 70 mph nd an upper-70s changeup. The upside is pretty obvious here.


The Scorpions Victus Brigade Team got an outing from Cole Hansen (2021 Skillman, NJ) under the lights. The 6-foot, 190 pound right-handed pitcher was up to 89 mph with his fastball that had a little cut on it. He threw a slower and big breaking curveball in the low-70s and a harder and shorter mid-70s slider. The feel for the two pitches and his ability to manipulate the spin is extremely advanced. He has a solid changeup to give him four pitches. This will translate into outs from the first day at the next level.

Parker Johnson (2021 Denver, NC) is a super athletic 6-foot-1 right-hander with a very fast shoulder. He threw three innings for 5 Star and was stellar as he struck out seven of the nine outs recorded. The heater has jump out the hand and he was in attack mode. The go-to secondary offering was a mid-70s curveball and Johnson accelerates the hand well on the pitch. This is an arm that will continue to make jumps as he adds strength and build innings.


The 6-foot-8, 190 pound uber projectable arm gave another glimpse of what he could be. Patrick Steitz (2021 Peoria, AZ) threw two scoreless innings as he ran his fastball up to 90 mph with big downward plane. There is a nice 10-4 shape to slider and has good bite as he extends on the pitch. As the great frame fills out there will be huge jumps from both a velocity and quality of strikes standpoint.

Keagan Perez (2021 Casselberry, FL) rang the bell at the WWBA. With lots of room to fill out the 6-foot-3, 160 pound frame Perez keeps making jumps. Already proving he can pitch, he threw 84% strikes in Fort Myers, Perez peaked at 87 mph with his fastball. The righty threw two scoreless frames and struck out four. The changeup has late fade and he keeps it down, though it is the hard-spinning curveball that is the biggest weapon. The best days are clearly coming soon for Perez.

The large framed lefty, Joseph Volini (2021 Tampa, FL) seems to be making jumps every week. His 6-foot-4 frame is still firming up but already producing fastballs peaking at 90 mph now. Volini is repeating his delivery more consistently and it is showing with his consistently firmer stuff. At 75 mph, his curveball continues to make big improvements. The overall ceiling should be extremely attractive to schools trying to add a left-handed pitcher this late.

Team Indiana right-hander Sam Mettert (2021 Indianapolis, IN) had an impressive first outing of the event. Living in the upper-80s and peaking at 91 mph. The pitch had some life to it and he throws with intent. That first outing Mettert yielded a single hit during his three innings and struck out four. The 76 mph breaking ball has big potential as well. Between his 6-foot-3, 180 pound frame and the big arm talent he should be an interesting follow on the recruiting trail as the fall come to an end.


As we talk about arm talent, Benjamin Fiedler (2021 Stanchfield, MN) needs to be in the conversation. He is a 6-foot-2, 176 pound right-handed pitcher that is just starting to hone his craft. There is obvious development remaining, but the quick arm that peaks at 94 mph brings enticing upside to any class. The hand speed on the breaker seems to be getting better and its horizontal shape looks like it should turn into a power slider. This arm could pop big.

AZ D-Backs Scout Team brought a good handful of quality arms that could be huge risers as they get to the next level. 6-foot-1 and athletically built Jackson Thomas (2021 Mesa, AZ) threw three no-hit innings with four strikeouts as he came to the East Coast to compete. The right-hander peaked at 90 mph, has been up to 92 mph, and throws a good shaped 11-5 curveball (yet a bit slow) for strikes. The development is trending up big.

At 6-foot-7 and 205 pounds, Henry Lalane (2022 Gunter, TX) is one of the more intimidating presences that stand on the bump. His high and extended release helps with the steep plane and is already bumping 90 mph with his fastball. Lalane had two short outing at the WWBA and did not give up any damage. With his mid-70s breaking ball, there is significant upside with physical projection and ability to get swing and miss.

The Ontario Blue Jays had a great showing in Fort Myers with a good amount of uncommitted prospects that can help a lot of recruiting classes. Nelson Mercado (2021 Brampton, ON CAN) threw 3-plus innings over the course of two outings. He struck out a pair without giving up a run. He has a sturdy 6-foot-2, 225 pound frame and his two pitch, 91 mph fastball and 80 mph slider give him a future power arsenal that should tunnel to the glove side as he learns to design his offerings.


The massive 6-foot-7, 230 pound frame of Puerto Rican lef-thanded-pitcher Eddie Rivera (2021 Vega Alta, PR) combined with his 94 mph fastball, should be able to find a home at the next level soon. The timing and delivery still have development ahead of them, but the overall potential is hard to ignore. He spins the breaking ball in the upper-70s and garners a good bit of swing and miss when he is around the zone. The ceiling is enormous.

The first outing for East Coast Sox 2021 Founders Club Henry Cone (2021 Brenham, TX) was pretty special. It was a quick two innings where he pounded the strike zone with an 87-90 mph fastball and hard biting mid-70s curveball. Cone has good tempo and a fast shoulder. The 70% strikes give a great indication of what the right-hander is capable of doing.

Jarrett Maresco (2021 Port Orange, FL) started the semifinal game for Scorpions 2021 Founders Club. It was the type of outing that we have become accustomed to seeing from Maresco as he went four tough innings allowing only one run and striking out four. The fastball topped at 87 mph and he located it to both the east and west sides of the plate. He has a polished three pitch mix and forces opponent hitters to be ready to swing the stick. Maresco is as steady as you will find on the circuit.

Creighton Tuzzio (2024, Clarinda, Iowa) took the ball in the semi-final game and was able to get on the bump and carve for his team. Tuzzio is a taller 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame with plenty to like in the operation. The right-handed pitcher has a slower and more controlled operation as he works through the delivery. He lifts the leg up around the belt and then works through a three-quarters release with good whip through it. The fastball worked up to 86 mph on the fastball and held in the low- to mid-80s. He creates some angle on it with the taller & projectable frame. It runs arm-side and can be a problem for right-handed hitters. He also showed a low-70s curveball with a bigger 11/5 tilt to it and good depth to miss some bats. James Sherry (’26, Aiken, S.C.)- the 6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed pitcher tossed a complete game for Xtreme Xposure Baseball-Bennett in an 8-1 win over 2 Way Athletics 16U. A primary outfielder, Sherry finished with 15 strikeouts and just one walk while controlling the zone at a 65% strike rate. Patrick Kovacs (2026 Knoxville TN) was dominant in his outing in game two of pool play for Exposure National. The southpaw tossed three scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out eight. He showed plus command of the fastball dotting it to both sides of the plate while working off the corners at times. Patrick sat 75-78 topping at 79 multiple times throughout. He mixed in a tight breaking ball with two plane movement that he had no problem mixing in any count keeping the opposing hitters off balanced in the box. Coming from a mid 3/4s slot there was some deception within the operation making it tough to pick the fastball up out of the hand. Jack Harley (2024, Mendham, NJ) put together a dominant performance at the plate in the WWBA NEQ, leading his team to a coveted Jupiter bid while also earning MVP-honors. The 6-foot-1 left-handed hitter showcased his advanced bat-to-ball skills on several occasions. He batted .643 with two doubles, a home run and six stolen bases. Harley utilizes a repeatable, synced-up stroke with clean separation into launch. He has a great feel for the barrel and creates good strength at impact to all parts of the diamond. The future Hokie recorded a hit in all six of his games and proved to be a reliable bat at the top-of-the-order for Clubhouse 2024 EvoShield. Nathan Caldwell (2026, Columbia, S.C.) looked the part in the batter’s box as the Team Elite three-hole hitter had one of the hardest hit balls of the day. There’s really impressive bat speed and the ability to create violence and rotational acceleration through contact. He missiled a single during the game and there looks like there’s going to be pretty significant impact potential long term. He’s a strong kid with good indicators and offensive tools to like. Drew Borkowski (2026, Huntley, Ill.) showed plenty to like in the arm as he got the start in game one on the day for GRB.
