15u South WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2




Diego Luzardo (2023, La Porte, Texas) was impressive in his start for Performance Baseball 14u on Sunday morning, tossing five innings and striking out eight batters. Luzardo has an athletic frame with room to fill out and add strength as he continues to develop and mature. The righthander ran a heavy running fastball up to 83 mph on Sunday before pitching in the low-80s for most of his outing. Luzardo lands slightly closed before coming across his body with a low three-quarters slot. The arm action is long and clean, and the slot allowed him to really spin a sweeping slider that made hitters uncomfortable at 70-72 mph. Luzardo has room to grow and fine too all of his present strengths on the mound, and that makes him a very exciting arm to keep an eye on in the 2023 class.

Ryan Williams (2022, Cypress, Texas) had a strong day behind the plate for Texas Twelve Maroon 2022 on Sunday, adding a 1-for-3 day at the plate as well. Williams is athletic behind the plate, receiving well and consistently earning strikes for his pitchers. Williams constantly moves around on the field, backing up bases and adjusting well to throws from the outfield. At the plate, Williams starts from an upright and slightly open stance and flashed some excellent bat speed in Sunday’s game. Williams had a double on Sunday, and followed that up with a loud lineout to the center fielder. Williams has a high motor and is someone that can be a great field general as he continues to grow and develop.

Noah Paddie (2023, Marshall, Texas) had an impressive day at the plate and in the field for Performance Baseball 14u on Sunday. Paddie was 2-for-4 on the day, highlighted by a triple down the line in right field. Paddie showed some impressive speed on the triple, flying around the bases with ease. Paddie has a young frame at 5-foot-8, 140-pounds, and the frame profiles well at second base. Paddie was as sure-handed as they come at second base on Sunday, making a few really nice plays with smooth turns up the middle.

Elliott Foreman (2023, Diana, Texas) is one of the more impressive members of Performance Baseball 14U when it comes to his physical stature and frame. With a 6-foot-1, 187-pound frame, Foreman has some physical tools that lead to consistently hard contact at the plate. Foreman was 1-for-3 at the plate with a loud triple to the right field corner on Sunday morning, and showed good speed and awareness to score on an overthrow on the play. Foreman has quick hands and uses his lower half well in his swing, and rising freshman already has some impressive feel for the barrel as well.

Trenton Lape (2023, Bossier. City, La.) had one of the more impressive individual games we’ve seen at the tournament on Sunday, going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs. Lape’s home run got out in a hurry, rattling off of the foul pole down the left field line. Lape is a consistent power threat in the heart of the Performance Baseball 14u order, and a name to keep an eye on as the tournament continues. The Louisiana native is a Top 1000 player in the 2023 class, and certainly a name to keep an eye on in the future.




Jovanny Garcia (2021, Houston, Texas) seemingly got stronger as his outing on the mound went on Sunday night. After sitting 81-84 mph in his first inning of work, Garcia pitched at 85-87, bumping 90 mph twice over his final three innings of work. Garcia has a fast arm to go along with some present athleticism, and the righthander was able to create some good arm side run to the fastball when his delivery was on time. Garcia, who is an uncommitted member of the 2021 class, has developing feel for spin with a slider at 70-72 mph and a big curveball in the mid-60s. While neither of Garcia’s secondary pitches are at swing-and-miss level just yet, they did provide a good wrinkle and mix of speeds to go along with the heavy fastball. While Garcia has some things to fine tune in his delivery, he is an interesting arm that could continue to develop well as he adds more strength and matures on the mound.

The Beaumont Gladiators got a combined, two-hit shutout performance from the duo of Koby Trahan (2022, Port Neches, Texas) and Joseph Doan (2022, Lumberton, Texas) on Sunday morning. Trahan tossed the first 4 1/3 innings of the game striking out eight batters and allowing just one hit. Trahan featured a fastball up to 84 mph on Sunday, and paired that well with a mid-70s slider. Doan tossed the final 2 2/3 innings of the masterpiece, striking out five and allowing the other hit. Doan showed impressive command, walking only one and finishing off the win.

Connor Benge (2022, Montgomery, Texas) is listed as the No. 5 righthanded pitcher in the state of Texas for the 2022 class. Benge got the start on the mound in the morning slot versus USA Prime 15u Ladd. He has a lean build with room to grow and long limbs. Benge started off the first inning with his fastball sitting 87-89 mph and in the later innings settle in at 84-86 mph, occasionally touching 87. He had a compact, semi-quick delivery to the plate, a high three-quarters arm slot and was able to locate well when he repeated his mechanics. Benge worked downhill and drove off his back side, created angle with a slight head jerk upon release. Benge worked his curveball in the low- to mid-70s that had 11-to-5 shape with good biting action that he was able to tunnel well for strikes. He worked four innings, allowed three hits and stuck out five.

Benjamin Abeldt (2022, McKinney, Texas) is a tall, lean lefthanded pitcher for USA Prime 15u Ladd. Abeldt threw from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long circle in the back, had a simple delivery with a high leg kick and when repeatable, showed good extension out front. The young lefthander worked his fastball in the low- to mid -80s with arm side run and sink. At times, he was able to work both sides of the plate along while mixing in a changeup at 72-76 mph and a slider at 75 mph. With fixes to his front-side mechanics, Abeldt will develop more command of his arsenal and should project well over the next three years at McKinney Boyd High School.

Coming in to relief for USA Prime 15u Ladd was Caden Park (2022, McKinney, Texas). Listed as a primary short stop, Park showcased a 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame with room to fill. He threw from a three-quarters arm slot, had an online, linear delivery to the plate that created an extended release. Park pithed 1 1/3 innings, worked his fastball from 83-86 mph and flashed a curveball that was 70 mph. He was able to create run on his fastball and 11-to-5 break on his curveball that he was able to throw for strikes. While still showing to be raw on the mound, this young prospect has a chance to add more velocity to is already quick arm and should be an interesting follow over the next few years.

6-foot-2, 225-pound Walker Polk (2022, Coppell, Texas) stood out behind the plate defensively for Dallas Tigers 15u Polk. The young catcher displayed a strong, sturdy frame with present strength. He stayed low with agility from side-to-side, showed good blocking ability with proper footwork that put him in a good position to throw. His most impressive skill, which was his arm strength, was showcased during his throw downs with all his throws being accurate with carry and logged a 1.99-2.05 pop times. Polk is ranked as the No. 3 catcher in Texas for the 2022 class.

Jayson Jones (2022, Savannah, Texas) had an impressive day for on the field and showed why he is ranked the No. 1 third baseman in state of Texas for the 2022 class. At the hot corner, he had a first good step, showed present arm strength and good reactions. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound young prospect had a projectable build with room to fill out. Jones is a righthanded hitter who had elite bat speed, with a short compact swing. He displayed his power by hitting a deep home run to left field that jumped off his bat. He used his lower half and created slight lift in his swing. Jones will continue to get stronger and projects to be a middle-of-the-order type of hitter.

Two pitchers for Dallas Tigers 15u Polk combined for a one-hitter against GBA/Prospects. Jonah McCormack (2022, Coppell, Texas) started on the mound and pitched three innings, struck out seven and walked one. McCormack worked a two-pitch mix and had no trouble retiring the nine batters he faced. His fastball was 79-82 mph while mixing in a curveball at 65 mph.

Coming out of the bullpen Dante Cano (2022, Abilene, Texas) also made it look easy during his outing. Cano pitched two innings, struck out three and allowed one hit. His fastball was 81-84 mph with slight run used a curveball to keep hitters honest at 66 mph.

Creighton Tuzzio (2024, Clarinda, Iowa) took the ball in the semi-final game and was able to get on the bump and carve for his team. Tuzzio is a taller 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame with plenty to like in the operation. The right-handed pitcher has a slower and more controlled operation as he works through the delivery. He lifts the leg up around the belt and then works through a three-quarters release with good whip through it. The fastball worked up to 86 mph on the fastball and held in the low- to mid-80s. He creates some angle on it with the taller & projectable frame. It runs arm-side and can be a problem for right-handed hitters. He also showed a low-70s curveball with a bigger 11/5 tilt to it and good depth to miss some bats. James Sherry (’26, Aiken, S.C.)- the 6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed pitcher tossed a complete game for Xtreme Xposure Baseball-Bennett in an 8-1 win over 2 Way Athletics 16U. A primary outfielder, Sherry finished with 15 strikeouts and just one walk while controlling the zone at a 65% strike rate. Appearing in only his second PG tournament, Sherry turned in another great pitching performance after being selected to the All-Tournament Team at the 2023 16U PG Southeast Labor Day Classic. Patrick Kovacs (2026 Knoxville TN) was dominant in his outing in game two of pool play for Exposure National. The southpaw tossed three scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out eight. He showed plus command of the fastball dotting it to both sides of the plate while working off the corners at times. Patrick sat 75-78 topping at 79 multiple times throughout. He mixed in a tight breaking ball with two plane movement that he had no problem mixing in any count keeping the opposing hitters off balanced in the box. Coming from a mid 3/4s slot there was some deception within the operation making it tough to pick the fastball up out of the hand. The frame has plenty of athleticism within with plenty of more room for additional strength as he continues to mature. Kovacs should be a fun follow as he continues to progress through high school. Jack Harley (2024, Mendham, NJ) put together a dominant performance at the plate in the WWBA NEQ, leading his team to a coveted Jupiter bid while also earning MVP-honors. The 6-foot-1 left-handed hitter showcased his advanced bat-to-ball skills on several occasions. He batted .643 with two doubles, a home run and six stolen bases. Harley utilizes a repeatable, synced-up stroke with clean separation into launch. He has a great feel for the barrel and creates good strength at impact to all parts of the diamond. The future Hokie recorded a hit in all six of his games and proved to be a reliable bat at the top-of-the-order for Clubhouse 2024 EvoShield. Nathan Caldwell (2026, Columbia, S.C.) looked the part in the batter’s box as the Team Elite three-hole hitter had one of the hardest hit balls of the day. There’s really impressive bat speed and the ability to create violence and rotational acceleration through contact. He missiled a single during the game and there looks like there’s going to be pretty significant impact potential long term. He’s a strong kid with good indicators and offensive tools to like. Drew Borkowski (2026, Huntley, Ill.) showed plenty to like in the arm as he got the start in game one on the day for GRB.
