Florida Super25 titles claimed

SWFL Nation claims 17u title in shutout

FORT MYERS, Fla. – SWFL Nation stormed the field with confidence in the title game shutting out SWFL Upperclass at the 2019 Super25 Florida Super Qualifier, by a score of 7-0. The team recorded three shutout games in a row and tallied just one loss in the tournament, which came from Saturday’s pool play against SBO Florida.

Heavy rains this weekend forced two games on Monday and SWFL Nation played to the game plan perfectly by jumping out to early leads and then letting their pitching bring them home. An impressive start for SWFL, including Drew Brutcher’s (2020, Lakeland, Fla.) terrific homer driving in a pair of runs, put them on the board 5-0 in the first.

The offense grinded through at bats to win back to back games Monday. Leadoff hitter Jaylen Youngs (2020, Cape Coral, Fla.) rapped two hits and drove in two runs to start off the championship game.  

High follow Trey Bacon (Seffner, Fla.) got the start allowing a hit and a walk striking out one batter in his two innings.

Sehjin Daley (2020, Tampa, Fla.) of SWFL, who came in as a relief, certainly did not let up in his two innings by not allowing any batters a run or hit. Daley is ranked nationally as a Top 1000 player by Perfect Game.

FGCU commit, McFaddin (Mac) Moise (2020, Cape Coral, Fla.) went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Moise is also ranked nationally as a Top 500 player by Perfect Game. 

The tournament’s MVP was earned by catcher Jacob Stone (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) in his first weekend competing with SWFL. Stone singled in the top of the first, contributing to the teams early runs.

“Jacob had a great high school season and I’ve been looking forward to seeing him be a part of the team and he didn’t disappoint- squared up balls all weekend,” said SWFL’s Head Coach Clint Montgomery. SWFL Nation also saw RBIs from Andrew Marinello (2020, Cape Coral, Fla.) and Zachary Thomas (2020, Fort Myers, Fla.).

Micheal Ross (2020, Lakeland, Fla.) earned MV-Pitcher for the tournament, the righthander’s top performance came during the quarterfinals when he struck out five batters allowing just one hit and a walk in his 5 1/3 innings on the mound. Ross has been with the SWFL program the past three years and coach would say he has given the team valuable starts all three years.

“He’s very reliable in terms of what we know we are going to get from him every start on the mound, and he just continues to grow as a hitter. Some school is going to get a great kid and great competitor,” said Coach Montgomery.

Speaking of the program, SWFL (Southwest Florida) has a long association with Perfect Game events, in fact, this tournament brings them 33 PG championships. Head Coach Montgomery expresses, “There is no doubt Perfect Game is the best – from tournaments to the website and coverage of players. It’s just well organized.”
Double-digit triumph in 16u title game

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Big time plays and exceptional hitting all weekend long for FTB Tucci Orlando 2020 who overcame SWFL 2021 Nation in Monday’s championship game by a score of 11-1. Joseph Montalvo (2021, Orlando, Fla.) did his job on the mound, earning the win for FTB. He recorded six strikeouts, allowing four hits and held SWFL scoreless through the fourth. Montalvo is ranked as a Top 1000 player in the country by Perfect Game.

Deamez Filipe’ Ross (2022, Melbourne, Fla.) led the top half of the frame with a double, scoring Yadiel A Agosto (2020, Orlando, Fla.) 481371 and would come around from Andrew Sieczkowski’s (2020, Bradenton, Fla.) double to give FTB an early 2-0 advantage.

Agosto then added a double entering the third and went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

But it was in the fifth and final inning when two walks led to a base hit to right field by Edgardo Villegas (Vega Alta, Pr.) scoring tournament MVP Derick Cantres’ (2020, Melbourne, Fla.) and Marlon Sanchez (2020, Kissimmee, Fla.).Villegas, who also came in as a relief pitcher, would later equal Cantres’ two runs scored.

Cameron Maruzzela’s (2020, Grant, Fla.) would then triple and drive in two runs and score on a wild pitch from Jake Gibson to top off a six-run fifth inning.

FTB also saw an RBI from John Michael Coreano (2021, Orlando, Fla.).

Matthew Arce (2021, Mulberry, Fla.) got the start for SWFL allowing six hits and a walk in his two innings on the mound. While Blake Barquin (2021, Lakeland, Fla.) collected the team’s RBI and went a solid 2-for-2 in the game.

The MV-Pitcher of the tournament was SWFL’s Haile Daley (2021, Tampa, Fla.). The righthander’s performance came at their opener Saturday when the righthander allowed two hits and a walk, striking out 10 batters in just five innings. 


 Undefeated SBO Florida claim 14u title

FORT MYERS, Fla. – SBO Florida came to conquer this weekend in the Super25 Florida Super Qualifier. Going undefeated in the tournament, it was no surprise that SBO would secure a win in the title game over the Elite Squad 14u Outlaws Monday by a score of 6-1.

A base hit to left field by Julian Garcia (2023, Margette, Fla.) eventually drove him home in the second putting SBO on the board, 1-0. Garcia went 2-for-3 in the game with a double and two runs scored.

Garcia, who is a primary third-baseman, was athletic on the mound as well earning him the tournament’s MV-Pitcher. He ensured good movement on his fastball that was up to 80 mph and good feel for his curveball that was 68 mph. The high follow struck out 10 batters in his 7 1/3 innings this weekend.

Jose Toledano (2022, Weston, Fla.) pitched the title game for SBO allowing five hits and a walk in his seven innings. The lefthander had an effective drive on his fastball that topped 75mph.

David Bosque (2022, Miami, Fla.) led the way for SBO’s offense going 2-for-3 with a double and scored run. Bosque is ranked nationally as a Top 1000 player by Perfect Game.

Alejandro Simo (2023, Weston, Fla.) and Giovanni Febus (2022, Miramar, Fla.) each came up with an RBI for SBO as the team didn't see half of their runs until the fifth. Along with Javier Arroyo (2023, Homestead, Fla.), who gained two RBIs for SBO.

Joel Pagan (2022, Humacao, Pr.) went 2-for-3 while scoring one of the three runs in the fifth. 

For the Outlaws, Justin Lebron (2023, Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the way offensively going 2-for-2 with a scored run. Joseph Mincey produced the team’s RBI and went 1-for-2 in the game.

Righthander Christopher Carroll (2023, Miami, Fla.) allowed seven hits striking out four batters but no walks in his six innings on the mound.

Elite Squad’s Brandon White (2022, Coral Springs, Fla.) received MVP honors for the tournament. Whites’ outstanding performance came at Sunday’s quarterfinals when the high follow led the way for the Outlaws offense going a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored.

Creighton Tuzzio (2024, Clarinda, Iowa) took the ball in the semi-final game and was able to get on the bump and carve for his team. Tuzzio is a taller 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame with plenty to like in the operation. The right-handed pitcher has a slower and more controlled operation as he works through the delivery. He lifts the leg up around the belt and then works through a three-quarters release with good whip through it. The fastball worked up to 86 mph on the fastball and held in the low- to mid-80s. He creates some angle on it with the taller & projectable frame. It runs arm-side and can be a problem for right-handed hitters. He also showed a low-70s curveball with a bigger 11/5 tilt to it and good depth to miss some bats. James Sherry (’26, Aiken, S.C.)- the 6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed pitcher tossed a complete game for Xtreme Xposure Baseball-Bennett in an 8-1 win over 2 Way Athletics 16U. A primary outfielder, Sherry finished with 15 strikeouts and just one walk while controlling the zone at a 65% strike rate. Patrick Kovacs (2026 Knoxville TN) was dominant in his outing in game two of pool play for Exposure National. The southpaw tossed three scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out eight. He showed plus command of the fastball dotting it to both sides of the plate while working off the corners at times. Patrick sat 75-78 topping at 79 multiple times throughout. He mixed in a tight breaking ball with two plane movement that he had no problem mixing in any count keeping the opposing hitters off balanced in the box. Coming from a mid 3/4s slot there was some deception within the operation making it tough to pick the fastball up out of the hand. The frame has plenty of athleticism within with plenty of more room for additional strength as he continues to mature. Kovacs should be a fun follow as he continues to progress through high school. Jack Harley (2024, Mendham, NJ) put together a dominant performance at the plate in the WWBA NEQ, leading his team to a coveted Jupiter bid while also earning MVP-honors. The 6-foot-1 left-handed hitter showcased his advanced bat-to-ball skills on several occasions. He batted .643 with two doubles, a home run and six stolen bases. Harley utilizes a repeatable, synced-up stroke with clean separation into launch. He has a great feel for the barrel and creates good strength at impact to all parts of the diamond. The future Hokie recorded a hit in all six of his games and proved to be a reliable bat at the top-of-the-order for Clubhouse 2024 EvoShield. Nathan Caldwell (2026, Columbia, S.C.) looked the part in the batter’s box as the Team Elite three-hole hitter had one of the hardest hit balls of the day. There’s really impressive bat speed and the ability to create violence and rotational acceleration through contact. He missiled a single during the game and there looks like there’s going to be pretty significant impact potential long term. He’s a strong kid with good indicators and offensive tools to like. Drew Borkowski (2026, Huntley, Ill.) showed plenty to like in the arm as he got the start in game one on the day for GRB.
